367 drivers were fined for using the mobile phone at the wheel during the seven days of the operation “Phone off”

The PSP has fined 367 drivers for using the mobile phone at the wheel during the seven-day “Phone off” operation that took place across the country, the security force said on Monday.
Between May 6 and 12, the Public Security Police carried out an operation aimed at the use of the mobile phone while driving in order to prevent risky behavior on the roads, and inspected 11,907 vehicles.
In a statement, PSP adds that in total 367 infractions were recorded for improper use of the mobile phone while driving, meaning an average of 52 cars a day, in addition to the 32 arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol, 15 detained for lack of authorization legal to drive and 635 speeding counts.
In the statement, PSP also indicates that 450 specific operations were carried out and involved 1,808 police and 680 vehicles, as well as other technical equipment.
In the same period, the GNR carried out a similar operation, called “Smartphone, Smartdrive”, in which it registered 649 infractions for misuse of the mobile phone while driving.
