Merkel considers new measures after increase in coronavirus cases in Germany

VON.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed concern on Monday about the increase in new cases of covid-19 in Germany, with a meeting with regional leaders to discuss new containment measures.

According to information advanced by the newspaper Bild, the German leader questioned, in an internal videoconference of her party, the CDU, if the action to stop the virus in the capital would be the most appropriate, stressing that “something has to be done in Berlin”.

Last week, Germany recorded more than 2,000 new daily cases of covid-19, numbers that resemble those of April. On Saturday alone, the figures reached 2,507, the highest since April 18.
