Covid-19 in Portugal. Report warns of growing pressure on hospitals

The country can reach 240 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in six days.

Portugal is less than a week away from reaching the red line of 240 cases of covid-19 per 100,000 inhabitants.

It is the estimate of the most recent report by the General Directorate of Health and the Ricardo Jorge Institute.

The document warns of increased pressure on hospitals.

In intensive care, the impact of the increase in infections is already being felt. Last Wednesday, there were 113 people admitted to the ICU, almost half the number considered critical of 245 beds occupied. The region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo represents 62% of these admissions.

Dominant in most regions, the report says that between the 14th and 20th of June, the Delta variant accounted for 70% of cases nationwide. Last week, the prevalence is estimated to have risen to 85%.
