The director of the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF), Luísa Maia Gonçalves, presented her resignation today, following a meeting requested by the Minister of Internal Affairs with the intention of exonerating her, announced the Government.
The news published by the weekly Expresso , at the beginning of the evening, reported the resignation of the director by the minister for “breach of the objectives of the guardianship.” Around 9:00 pm, the Ministry issued a statement, quoted by the Lusa agency, which says that, after all, it was Luisa Maia Gonçalves who resigned.
“The Minister of Internal Affairs, Constança Urbano de Sousa, convened today, October 4, the national director of the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF), Luísa Maia Gonçalves, for a meeting with the purpose of communicating her intention to to be released, Luísa Maia Gonçalves having resigned, “according to a statement released today by the Ministry of Internal Administration.
Luísa Maia Gonçalves was appointed as national director of the SEF, in place of António Beça Pereira, who resigned in January 2016.
Luísa Maia Gonçalves has held a number of leading positions in different public administration bodies and has been assistant secretary of the State for European Affairs and adviser to the National Coordinator for the Free Movement of Schengen People.
António Beça Pereira took office as director of the SEF on January 9, 2015, replacing Manuel Jarmela Palos, who was arrested and constituted defendant in the case of the ‘gold’ visas.
