In relation to Tuesday, the number of new cases more than doubled, from 249 to 646, the highest value since April 20, when 657 new infections were registered, in a total of 20,863 infected.
Higher values were only found during the period of the state of emergency when the barrier of a thousand new cases per day was exceeded, namely on March 31 (1,035) and on April 10, when the highest value was reached high: 1,516 new infections.
Portugal entered on May 3 in a calamity situation due to the pandemic, after three consecutive periods in a state of emergency since March 19.
Since July 1, the country has entered a state of alert, except for the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon, which remains in a state of contingency.
