In relation to Tuesday, the number of new cases more than doubled, from 249 to 646, the highest value since April 20, when 657 new infections were registered, in a total of 20,863 infected.

Higher values ​​were only found during the period of the state of emergency when the barrier of a thousand new cases per day was exceeded, namely on March 31 (1,035) and on April 10, when the highest value was reached high: 1,516 new infections.

Portugal entered on May 3 in a calamity situation due to the pandemic, after three consecutive periods in a state of emergency since March 19.

Since July 1, the country has entered a state of alert, except for the Metropolitan Area of ​​Lisbon, which remains in a state of contingency.

As of September 15, “the whole country will be in a state of contingency” so that the necessary measures can be defined “in each area to prepare for the return to school and the return of many Portuguese to their workplace”, according to the Minister the Presidency.

In Portugal, the first confirmed case of covid-19 was notified on March 2. Since then, 61-541 confirmed cases and 1,849 deaths have been reported.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed at least 898,503 deaths and infected more than 27.6 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December in Wuhan, a city in central China.
